Report written by Brahma Pochee
On an unassuming night in Newham thirteen of us ran over to lend a hand to an indefatigable Head Teacher.
Not after a warm up, and hearing how the squad went over 21k on the weekend. Course PB for Hil, Kev 'got it done' off minimal training and no race partner, Brad also using it as training, treating it as a hard long run. Not quite sure how the relay team went, will have to probe into that next time. RWQ spat out ineloquently by me, what I meant to say was: "It's International Women's Day on Sunday, who is an inspirational women for you?" Jacinda Ardern and Sanna Marin offering a template for younger women in politics and beyond. Marie Curie the old school trailblazer and also a scientific behemoth. Greta Thunberg a current example of how age, gender and power are irrelevant with requisite courage/perseverance. We also had Dolly Parton, the fluid-toned country music singer, didn't see that one coming. Finally we some lovely mentions of wonderful mums and tough grans, love it.
After puddle skipping, chats about flat-mates on fire and the dire state of Britain's tree cover... we arrived at the school. Getting straight to the job, it was more awkward and heavy cpu desks to move. On the plus side good strength training, on the down side MY SHINS. There is a reason behind the continual movement of tables and furniture, it's a large and dynamic school, there's always going to be change. Without you guys that change would take much longer and maybe never happen.
We trotted back into the damp night air, treated with some biscuits from Eugene via Hils, lovely touch to conclude the eve. Next week we need you all back at it, I'm away, so Kev is leading the session, should be straightforward, as you head over to Cody Docks for some more office renovation work - sign up here
I'll see you all in two (whole) weeks, till then
