Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Michael
Another glorious Sunday morning and another visit to StarGarAllot community gardens, today to finish the raised beds so that they could get planting. The crew had already made a start on one of the raised beds last week and now we were determined to finish it off, with an additional smaller one thrown in.
Camilla met us as usual and talked to us about the tasks in hand, we had an ice box full of refreshments to quench our thirsts - this was going to be hot sweaty work in this sunshine.
We got to work fast, with Nathan, Lucy and Andrew moving the soil barrow by barrow over to the large raised bed. Michael got the pleasure of getting the electric screwdriver and taking a section of the small raised bed front off, then it was time to start moving more soil over to this one. Peter arrived and got stuck in straight away with everyone on the large raised bed.
As soon as it was possible the large bags were carried over and tipped directly onto each of the raised beds, then they were topped off with some nutritionally rich compost ready to feed the new plants. We watered, tidied up, drank some lush refreshments and then chatted with Camilla for a while. After a good hour and a half of work the gardens were looking beautiful, but it was time to head off to cycling, dinners and long(ish) runs.
Stargarallot Community Garden was created in 2018 by local residents as a community garden network covering the STAR area of Cardiff.
