WOKING GG NEWS
LAST NIGHT AT GOODGYM
Last Night we met at Woking Leisure Center, we were heading off to the GG allotment to give it a tidy. We had a nice group size last night with the usual members, plus new and some oldies.
Last night we had to re edge the allotment - Owen did a smashing job edging (it wasn't wonky at all ;) ) we has weeding to do at the front of allotment and a big tidy job to do at the back of the allotment. It looks so much better but we will be back to have fire to get rid of the unwanted plants and weeds. This will be at the end of October and we will incorporate into a GG group run. We have big plans for allotment for next spring and if you have any vegetables you are keen to grow and try then please let us know!
Rhubarb was given out last night to members and Rebecca was on Blackberry duty - we look forward to what she bakes up for next week!!
Next Week
We are at the RSPCA - remember please meet up the RSPCA in CHOBHAM.

LAST NIGHT'S ACTION A big thank you to everyone who turned up last night. It's great to see the numbers getting bigger. Last night we had a short run to the allotment. Next week, Woking Borough Council go round to each allotment to judge the best kept allotment site - Tunis Cup. So to do our bit and to make sure our plot doesn't let the site down, we had a tidy and planted a few more plants. Our potatoes are almost ready to start digging up and we had our first red strawberries - Sally Anne and Rebecca got very excited about our first few mangetout which have started to come out. We obviously had some more rhubarb to pull, we hope you guys enjoy the rhubarb and mint. There is a lot of mint so if anyone fancies anymore then there is plenty going spare.
NEXT WEEK We are leaving from WWF to head to beaufort primary school for some painting and gardening. Please don't forget to sign up on the web site.

GoodGym Woking go planting!
A great effort by everyone tonight, we welcomed Ting last night to GoodGym Woking... we hope you enjoyed your first GoodGym group run experience! We went off to the allotment last night for some planting. We had the task of putting together a structure for the mangetout and also to plant out some Radish and Pak Choi! We can't wait to see them grow and hopefully bring us crops of vegetables and salad! We also had another row of potatoes go in, so we now have a fair amount of potatoes in the ground... fingers crossed!!
After the allotment we headed for everybody's favourite hill, we completed some Fartlek training - Fartlek, which means "speed play" in Swedish, is continuous training with interval training. Fartlek training “is simply defined as periods of fast running intermixed with periods of slower running. Working hard up the hill and easy going down - or basically everyone chasing Anne down the hill!!
next week
We are off to Kingfield Primary school to help out with their Forest School area. Don't forget to sign up!

Last night we had to change our task last minute, but luckily we had a back up - our very own Goodgym Allotment given to us by Derrys field Allotment for all the good deeds we have helped with. The plan is to get everyone to help out by planting and tending the fruit and veg we grow, then selling the produce to raise money for local charities. The allotment is just a short 1.5km run from our meeting spot, so this makes for an excellent warm up. Once there we set about digging trenches for the 5 different varieties of potatoe we had chosen, then, after discussing the best method of measuring 9 inches was, we began planting!!! Once we finished we headed off for some Hillsprints and Fartlek training.

A great turn out for GG Woking last, was great to see some old faces back again!
Last night we headed to Derry's allotment - we now have a GoodGym plot. This is available to GG members who would like to grow some veggies. We will also be hoping to create some Vegetable boxes for the local charities and community projects we work with. Last night we had the task of turning over the plot, the weather has been kind so the soil was perfect, we even have some lovely daffodils growing at the front of the plot.
If you have anything you would like to grow then please let us know. We have potatoes chitting (sprouting) which will be ready to go in, in the next couple of weeks.
It was lovely to see Sally-Anne again who has been busy studying as a sports massage therapist - Always good to know ;) James also brought along a friend last night, thank you for inviting Bell along and we hope we see her again soon!
Next week
I am just in the process of changing next weeks task, I will have confirmation on our new task later on today. You are more than welcome to sign up still.

Its was a 241 evening for Woking GoodGym
Last night we headed back to Derrys Field Allotments to dig over a site that had become unmanagable for an elderly lady to cope with.
But before we got there we decided to deliver some leaflets for Sam Beare Hospice charity Santa Run on 2nd Dec.
After a quick meet and greet at the Leisure Centre, we headed off through Woking Park and chose the hilliest route to the Allotments. Once their we were shown the Plot to be cleared and were given tools and gloves to complete the task. 25 mins later and a plot looking like an allotment plot again and not just a grass patch we then headed back delivering more leaflets along the way!
A big well done to everyone as it was certainly COLD last night. I hope you have all warmed up.
Good luck
Good luck to Rachel with will be running Richmond park half marathon this weekend.
