GoodGym digs through decades of memories during a lively house clearance
Last night, a group of five GoodGymers led by our esteemed run leader Marta, made our way to Glyndon Community Centre for our Wednesday night task. As usual we were warmly welcomed by caretaker Andy, who guided us to the storage unit at the back. Our mission: help empty a unit filled with the remnants of an old house clearance that was packed with 80s nostalgia and retro items.
Inside, we excitedly discovered a treasure trove of items that needed sorting: 1980s chart-topping singles (Keith Harris and Orville “I Wish I could Fly”), once-loved albums (The Best of Earth, Wind and Fire), well-worn furniture, retro lamp stands, quirky ornaments, and sentimental paintings. It was fascinating to see a person’s life through their possessions.
We then had to sort the items into various piles either for donating, recycling or to be thrown out and discarded. This was very difficult as so many items were sentiments and had a story to tell.
All in all, it was a productive and enjoyable evening. Once the unit was cleared, we dutifully swept up and snapped a quick group photo before heading home, satisfied with a job well done.

A lovely Tuesday evening saw Rachel, Sarah, and Cecilia meeting in Woolwich for a short but cheerful run up to Glyndon Community Centre. Once there, we were greeted by Andy, who had a couple of satisfying tasks lined up for us. Armed with brushes, gloves, and plenty of enthusiasm, we got stuck into sweeping the car park and tackling the weeds in the garden area. Between chatting and catching up, we managed to fill four bags full of weeds and debris in just 30 minutes, leaving the space looking much tidier and more welcoming. With the job done and a quick team photo snapped, we said goodbye to Andy and set off on our run back down to Woolwich, a great end to a productive evening.
Coming up: This Saturday, we’re heading to Hervey Road for a gardening session. Next Wedensday, we’re back at St Alfege’s School for some more weeding.
Until next time!

A bright and breezy Wednesday night took 5 GoodGym-ers to Glyndon Community Centre in Woolwich for tonight's task. With a spring in our step, we set to a spring clean in the outdoor area at Glyndon. Lots of sweeping and clearing of fallen leaves (not just ordinary leaves but super long palm tree leaves) later, we also started on much-needed declutter of the storage shed, making sure to recycle whatever we could.
Dismantling some broken planters was also on our to-do list, including a donkey planter, the front and back of which we just had to keep- hence this report's title...!
This left us time for a quick but effective littler pick, before a welcome downhill run back to Woolwich town centre.
Thanks all & see you soon! 😀

Step right this way!
After a cancelled task tonight we thought we would be litter picking around the river in Woolwich but Andy came to the rescue with another task at Glyndon! After a short run up the hill from the station we met Sarah at the centre and were briefed with the task which was to clear out a section of the infamous shed or should we call it snoopers paradise because who knows what you'll find in this room of mysteries. The delights tonight included three drums of increasing sizes, a guitar, guttering, wires and clothes galore. Our job was to get all the chairs out ready for picking up to be taken to a different home (they'll be in a better place with lots of other chair friends) then returning all the useful items and putting all the clothes in the clothes bank. However one obstacle was that the clothes bank was very full. No matter- we had Marta on the team tonight and she resourcefully used a broom and a large metal pole to stir, prod and push the clothes in as deep as they would go so we could heap more on top.
At the end of the session the garage looked that much clearer with a little walkway space which wasn't there before and we headed for a run back down the hill to Woolwich.
Great job team- we made a big difference in a small time! This weekend we've got a task at Mycenae House and we'll be celebrating our the GoodGym Greenwich ninth birthday - please come along to any part of it you would like to!
Next week we're at St Luke's for our first task in the lovely church.
Until next time!

This evening after retrieving a couple of our much valued members who were lost 🥺, we all made the short but hilly run up to Glyndon, meeting Julian and I was presented with a gorgeous birthday treat from Gail's - nom nom nom (thanks Marta! ❤️)
Andy quickly got us stuck in clearing the car park of all the debris and stacking boxes in the infamous shed of nightmares. We split into teams to get the jobs done with the usual efficiency whilst chatting away. Exellent photos from Chloe this week who has also made incredible strides with her fitness - it's amazing to see how far you've come, Chloe!
Andy kindly gave us a card and lovely box of chocolates which we tucked into before a quick tour of Glyndon for those who haven't seen into the underbelly of the community centre - who knew there was a gym there?
We ran back down the hill to the station and stretched before heading our separate ways. Well done team.
Next week join us at Shrewsbury House for our last group run of 2024!

A humid Wednesday evening bought us to woolwich for a gentle run to our old haunt, Glyndon. Tonight we were tasked with cleaning up the driveway and weeding the gravel in the garden which was done with our usual efficiency if I do say so myself. Heartened by the difference we made in a short space of time, we headed back to enjoy the rest of our evenings. Good work team!
Next week is gardening at Christchurch!
Until next time.
