Ahead of the main event, the Northolt 10k, the regular Sunday Northala Fields junior parkrun still went ahead - of course! The rain clouds parted and the sun came shining through, but there was a lot of people milling around ahead of the 10k. The junior route needed to be kept clear to let the juniors have a fair crack at their run. One of our GoodGym runners was there for the 10k but volunteered to help with crowd control. This was greatly assisted by standing near a man with a megaphone!
Despite a small posse of cyclists arriving to rack their bikes and a takeaway delivery rider in a hurry taking a short cut, all passed off uneventfully - ahead of the full event! Well done junior parkrunners for another one ticked off!

What a feat of organisation Northala juniors was this morning! It was the day of the Nepal runners annual Northolt 10k, and it was a beautiful morning for it. It’s a busy and popular race, with runners and dignatories arriving, marquees being erected (thanks Steph!), Nepalese food being cooked and a lot of warming up going on.
Announcements were made over the PA, marshals took their places, the crowds parted and off ran the young people! They weren’t put off, as they sprinted, jogged, walked and were cajoled around the course!
Their run done, it was time for the Northala 10k - but the children had already shown the adults how it’s done!

What a joy to have volunteered at Northala Junior parkrun. I was given the Tailwalker role and not one child stayed with me, they gave the mile their whole energy. I enjoyed it so much that I've signed up to volunteer next week!

Today's Northala juniors parkrun brought us lots of interesting things! - Harvey's 400th good deed, woohoo!
18 brave little runners doing their best
freezing hands
plenty of puddles
Pudsey Bear ears
Sevan and Kash both doing the timekeeping for the first time, the first one even without messing it up!
It was a long run to Northala for some of us on a Sunday morning but absolutely worth it, to see the kids' competitive spirit and excitement!

A strong field of young people today, including some very speedy athletes looking to achieve qualifying times for future races. But everyone is welcome at Junior Parkrun and we had a great group reflecting all ages and abilities. GoodGym's Jenny has become a regular volunteer at Northala Juniors, which is great to see. We'll be back again soon!

Two GoodGymers joined the regulars at Northala Juniors to marshall and hand out finish tokens. It was a warm morning and the young people put in a huge effort - you should have seen some of the sprint finishes! The young back marker was especially cute! Coffee, inevitably, followed. We'll be back again soon!
