Report written by York runner
Two groups of GG Yorkies headed to opposite parts of town to complete two good deeds
It was an evening of celebrations as we celebrated Leanne getting her wings for completing 100 good deeds, such an amazing achievement (so make sure you go and give her a cheer). There was something of an unintended GoodGym bake off as Huw had made good deed biscuits and Lizzie and I had made a good deed cake!
We also celebrated the return of EJ and Darren, who brought along a couple of friends too. In fact, we welcomed three new runners to GoodGym, so more cheers please to Diana, Gavin and Jordan.
Report by Nick The longer run set off along the riverside path and we immediately needed our head torches. To keep the group of 16 together we had several run backs as we dodged cow pats and cattle grids. There were so many it looked at times like Emma was doing the hurdles. Arriving safely at Rawcliffe we were soon put to work by Kristina; sharpening, cleaning and tightening shears, fitting new handles to broom heads and preparing all the tools that we so often get to use on our gardening tasks!
How long will they last before they need sharpening again?".... "No idea, we've never sharpened them before!"
Egg had prepared us a short fitness session with one group doing cardio and the other doing isometric holds - Leanne was in charge of instructions and timing and I sort of did demonstrations - before it was back on the riverside path to dodge more cow pats on the homeward leg - GG York's longest group run yet!
Meanwhile on the shorter run, we were delivering 1000 leaflets for the Older Citizens Advocacy in York. After a thorough briefing and map examination, Aron led out Team 1 on the east side and I took Team 2 to the west side.
The streets of South Bank were dark and all teams discovered secret and cobbled pathways to link up the maze of roads in the area. In under 30 minutes, we'd delivered all the leaflets. The teams met back at the rendevous point with extraordinarily good timing. From there, we played a few games of meet and retreat with a few exercises thrown in to make it a bit more difficult than it already is..
Once back at base, we finished off with a bit of classic core and a stretch out before being joined by the long run team.. this meant we could finally get Leanne to cut that cake as well as passing around the biscuits.
It's cakey and delicious!
Job done.
