Report written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)
We had three new runners join us tonight, welcome to Alex, Caroline and Olivia! Unfortunately they didn't get the full GoodGym experience.... but more about that later.
Angela has officially finished her training and joined the GoodGym Portsmouth Task Force and is doing her first task immediately with the organisation of our festive get together on Saturday! Congrats :)
Everyone had embraced the idea of festive wear for our festive task and there were additional hats from my collection for all who wanted to join in. Particular mention must go to the elves: Jo and Lou. Judy is also now to be known as Jingle Judy with her bells. So after a few photos and a wiggly warm up for agility plus some arm drive practice, we headed north to our task. Despite numerous emails and a phone call this morning to confirm the task, the duty manager let us in only to tell us that any unused decorations had been put away and there was nothing else we could help with. This is a first for GG Portsmouth but disappointing that it was a task we were really looking forward to and had dressed for the occasion.
Well, every cloud and all that.... everyone got an extra bit of fitness session in Templeton Gardens. I'm not sure what the residents thought was going on but their little roundabout made for a great running track and the pavements were nicely lit for the 12 exercises of Christmas. I think that
five bur-pees
should remain in the song for every year!
We headed back to Fratton a slightly different route, admiring some of the outside decorations along the way and then had a nice indoor stretch in the warm.
Hopefully we will return to a normal service next week when we head to Buckland Community Centre and then have our Christmas celebration in the community centre afterwards. Please bring a plate of food to share.
In the meantime, I will be at Southsea Parkrun on Saturday and there's the opportunity to join in with free Tai Chi near the coffee cup Eastney at 11:00. If you haven't already signed up, the register is now closed but we will be at Dice Portsmouth from 5pm on Saturday evening and I'm sure we can squeeze more in!
