Report written by Ella J (She/her)
Was the wind and and rain of Storm Brendan that inspired us to be a whirlwind of warriors waging war on waste? Although the storm had passed and it was a crisp and cold evening, seventeen fresh faces came out to do good and be awesome. I love seeing you all but also love meeting new members, inspired to try our unique and purposeful way of helping ourselves and others. [Rosy]Rosalind was full of enthusiasm and ran with a spring in her step and Claire got her documents checked and set a date in her diary for the 29th when we will walk and run to the Colchester Foodbank.
We started off the evening with a sharp warm up in a big circle before scouting for litter on the way to do a team fitness relay. Each team completed four 3/4 pace or above sprints with impressive commitment.
Then it was time to ceremoniously hand out the new gear! Bob, our litter picking superman, was presented with a litter picker that he can call his own and we went to work. We cleared the path around Leisure World, being careful not to fall in the ditch, as well as the skate-park, gathering a decent but not huge amount of litter - which is a good thing as there was less than anticipated.
Colchester Borough Council (David Carter) had sorted Goodgym Colchester out with shiny new litter pickers, hoops and Hi-Vis Litter Warrior jackets. Thank you!
Coming up on Saturday after Colchester Castle Parkrun is a starter session. Here are the details and it would be lovely to see you all to help encourage and inspire new members. If you are reading this and have never been to Goodgym, come say hi and enjoy the park and litter pick and do parkrun. Ella and I will be volunteering handing out tokens at the finish line.
Over and out. Have a productive and fulfilling time and see you soon.
