Report written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)
What a lot of hands we had tonight to make lanterns for the festival of light on 5th December (community mission volunteering points here)
Good to see Ellie back for her second session and also Michael (sporting his new GG tee), Fionn (sporting sore ribs) and Joe (cause of the sore ribs) back in a pack!
Some people took to the artistic challenge like ducks to water (or should that be jellyfish?) and others found it a bit more tricky, as shown in the concentration faces in the photos. The theme for this year's parade is "under the sea" and the local beavers will be carrying our jellyfish lanterns. There is a pun in there somewhere but I'll leave it to your imagination in case it gets censored! There were also plenty more unusable ones involving covering bottoms, soggy tentacles and sticky fingers....
Highlights tonight included Rosie making her lantern holder have runners legs & Manuel counting himself en espanol without realising. Tony and Judy continue on their race to wear the wings as they both get ever closer to the 100 good deeds. Catherine deserves social media credit for her instagram boomerang of her jellyfish! Oh the things you get to do as part of GoodGym!! As for most weeks there was food to be eaten with star baker Maxine providing healthy treats.
Post task we headed along St Mary's Road to try out a dark parkletics session. Finally I got to use my light up drawing board (exciting times). Val has captured some great action shots and a video which I will share on our social media channels.
Next week we have another indoor task for the Samaritans but we have to run there first (back to normal) so hopefully the rain will have rained itself out by then!
In the meantime, there are plenty of other community missions going on so feel free to get involved!
See you all soon :)
