GoodGym Luton continues to grow and for the first time in a long time we got eight runners out on our Group Run.
We visited a hedgerow next to Barnfield College and the river which is scheduled for some attention in the coming season. Under the direction of Ecologist Trevor from the council and with the help of Kevin and Phyl from ABCD we set to work.
We trimmed and tidied up the hawthorn hedge, clearing the way for some hedge-laying in the future. We cleared the grass and weeds from a couple of gaps so that we can come back in a few weeks and plant in some new trees to fill the gaps in the thin end of the hedge.
We brought down an unwanted elder tree trying to grow right on top of a big old mature hawthorn tree.
We even collected three bags of litter from the area in the process!
Great to get some interest and encouragement from passers by too!
