Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Martin R
Yesterday the Friends of Leagrave Park held their final community litterpick of 2023. it was well attended and bolstered by the presence of our Luton Goodgymers. One thing that has frustrated the team on previous tasks here is the volume of litter that accumulates in the river. On this occasions, and after robustly testing how close we could safely get to the mess, we decided to have good go at tackling it. The team managed to get a lot of the litter out and there were definitely questionable items too, including some funky wedgey shoes, a mask that, well, i'll leave it to your own imagination and a haul of other clothing items. This is such a shame as this could've been donated to a clothing charity rather than sitting in the river for who knows how long. Although we didn't clear the entire stretch of the river, we did get a good 10 bags from that one spot alone. A couple of big shout outs on this task go to Duncan who always gives every task 100% and this was no different, getting his feet a little wet, we knowknow why David calls him 'Dunc'. And i'd like to give a massive shout to Neil who attended his first litterpick as part of the Goodgym team if you're reading this please cheer and encourage him, he is a legend and it was great to see him in his Goodgym colours. in total the event collected around 25 bags of litter and collected some donations for another local organisation to support vulnerable people during the Christmas break. Thanks to everyone who turned out and Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
