Selfie-conscious

Wednesday 28th May

Written by Laura

We had another fantastic evening up at OWLS allotments in Headingley. We weeded large parts of the plot as usual and no doubt will do it all again next month! Jubz was very generous and gifted the group a selfie stick so that we can finally all get in pictures. He also wore his shirt backwards which everyone was too polite to point out (apart from me)! Congratulations to Shannen on her 40th good deed tonight & to Christian on his 42nd (sorry I missed your 40th)! You guys are awesome! Well done team and thanks for a great evening.

Hairy vine, no friend of mine...

Saturday 24th May

Written by Laura

Today, 3 of us met to tackle the Bramley OWLS garden's and the corner of overgrowth. We weren't sure what we would find, but there was lots and lots of ivy underneath. We filled several bags with debris and then created a compost heap in the corner. A good strim is needed to clear the rest. Good work ladies!

The Heat of the Moment

Wednesday 30th April

In the words of Rachel, 'what a wholesome evening!'

After a very hot run, it was so nice to be back up at the OWLS allotments on a lovely warm evening. We weeded several beds & paths & as there was 13 of us, we made a huge difference by the time we left. I'm always amazed by how much we can get done in an hour! This will allow the OWLS service users to focus on the fun stuff, planting and seeing to all the vegetables they're planting this summer.

Welcome to Ankita on her first Wednesday session & welcome back to Kawan.

We're Owl in this together...

Wednesday 29th January

Written by Laura

Last night we split into two groups to go on our quarterly leafletting run for Older Wiser Local Seniors.

We headed to Burley, Kirkstall & Headingley to ensure their service users know what's coming up over the next 3 months.

OWLS provide a wide range of activities to help local seniors remain fit, healthy and independent. Whether it’s a trip to their allotment, a day out shopping, or an exercise class; they have all sorts going on.

All of the activities and services that they arrange are tailored to help older people meet other people, learn new skills, and have fun together.

Katie came back to see us from Sheffield, so that was a good enough excuse for us all to head to the pub after our run.

Thanks to Helen & Bryony for leading a group each. Congratulations to Katie Lees on her 150th good deed, that's an amazing achievement & to Jason on his 30th.

Well done team!

When in doubt, weed it out!

Saturday 18th January

What a Great morning spent with some new & some returning members of the team!

7 GoodGymers headed up to the OWLS allotments to help tidy up this morning. It was the first time we've been back since autumn so there was lots to do.

We cleared several beds of weeds, tidied up the polytunnel, cleared waste materials into piles and had a general tidy up of the area. We made a real difference and it looked much better when we left.

There was a great atmosphere with everyone getting to know each other. Welcome to newcomers Sarah, Anna & Jess. We hope to see you again soon!
