This morning, I joined newcomers Alice & Emily at Ash Road Allotments to help weed for Older Wiser Local Seniors.

I brought along my two little helpers, my Italian greyhounds Elphie & Arlagh who were having a whale of a time until they both stung their paws. In true over-dramatic greyhound fashion, they of course acted like they'd severed a limb but were perfectly fine by the time we got home!! :)

We managed to get the area looking a little bit better but there's always more weeds to pull out up there!

It was lovely to meet Alice & Emily & I hope to see you again soon.

Ghost stories and clairvoyants were the theme of the evening!! Women in bedrooms, whispered names & trains on tarot cards were all part of the haunting tales....

10 GoodGymers ran up to the OWLS allotments where we weeded a large area and cleared the paths so that it's ready for OWLS service users. We then ran back to Heart for a pint and cake; what more could we want on a Wednesday evening? Running, weeding, ghosts, cider and cake....perfect!!

Once again we visited the OWLS allotment on Ash Road to help clear weeds and make the paths accessible for the elderly members of the group to use. Moira met us there and told is how impressed everyone has been at the work we have done so far. We quickly got to work, concentrating our efforts on pulling up bindweed and clearing stubborn dandelion and docks embedded in the paths. The results were impressive....it's amazing how much difference 9 pairs of hands can make with an hour's concerted effort. We welcomed Jack for his first task and Christian and Hashim returning newbies.

Tonight we ran from Heart and headed to Ash Road Allotments to dismantle the pergola at the OWLS allotment.

It was a shame to pull it down but it wasn't safe, so we hammered, crow barred, pulled & pushed until we managed to get it to fall onto one side. We then dismantled the wood and spent some time pulling screws out of the wood.

We also found time to eat some raspberries and to pick rhubarb to take home. There was a debate about whether a crumble was considered baking...but I'm holding firm on my achievement of baking my first crumble with the gooseberries picked last week.

Good work all & we completed the task with time to spare!

5 intrepid GoodGymers made their way to the OWLS allotment for another jolly evening of weeding and clearing paths to improve accessibility and help start the growing season. The weeds grow amazingly well, so hopefully when the crops are sown, they will thrive as well. In fact, we found some new potatoes as we were lifting weeds so someone got a free supper...

After a welcome box of cookies were provided by Jubz tonight, we nominated him our new Snack Force lead. Big responsibility but we think he's up to the job :)

After a last minute scramble to change task tonight, we decided to go back up to the OWLS allotment to finish the job we started last week. We weeded in the rain, the torrential rain! But a cookie break definitely helped.

After a vicious ant got into my sock, Jubz enjoyed informing me that ants actually sting, they don't bite. You learn something every week at GoodGym Leeds!
