Maria is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Park PICKnic

On a sunny Monday evening we welcomed two newcomers to Goodgym Brent , a big hello to Catherine and Chris !

Todays task was a litter pick of Willesden on the way to our summer social picnic .

Tabitha, Chris and Catherine took the left side of the road , and Amy and Chris the right . There was plenty of litter to pick and we added a fitness twist by squatting while picking. Lee soon joined and we had bags full of litter by the time we reached Gladstone park.

At the park we met Samina , Maria and Karen who had helped with a pick of the park .

We stayed in the park for a social picnic, where we shared popcorn, biscuits , fruit and crisps ... and an onion

Weekly Brent fitness HIIT

After a quick catch-up on news and what we had got upto over the weekend we headed straight into our HIIT exercises.

This week two rounds of HIIT round robin completing a mixture of exercises to give us a whole body work out.

We had another round robin session this week with the following HIIT exercises:

  • High knees with climbing arms
  • Cross crunches
  • Wide mountain climbers
  • Alternate heel touch crunches
  • Jump squats

This week we continued our round robin HIIT sessions with, Liz leading:

Everyone shared 2-3 exercises with the group. We all felt the burn from the new donkey kick exercise!

Brent Weekly Fitness!

This week we were back with more HIIT circuits.

Liz led the group starting with the all important warm up, followed by 40 seconds of:

  • bear crawls
  • legs raised clapping crunches
  • jump squat touch ground alternate sides
  • alternate elbow to knee stomach crunches
  • kicking punches

We repeated this three times and ended with a cool down stretch.

In this week's surprise session Claire led a circuits session. 7 exercises, 45 seconds each, 15 seconds break, 2 rounds:

  • Squats with punches
  • Elbow to knee lifts
  • Lunges right leg
  • Lunges left leg
  • Leg lifts
  • Superman arm and leg raises

Our lockdown fitness continued - this week Taskforce member Liz led the group in a HIIT session; on the 'menu' tonight:

  • squat jumps

  • bridge leg lifts

  • plank - lift up and down

  • crab walks

  • knee to elbow lifts

Next week we have a group session that really is a group session as everyone will be pitching in with exercise ideas! Hurray!

Hip Hip Hooray!

Claire T, GoodGym Brent's resident yoga teacher extraordinaire, got us loosened up with a brilliant "happy hips for runners" stretching session. Claire expertly guided us through a series of stretches (with variations for different level of flexibility) all designed to loosen and strengthen the muscles around your hips which is often where runners get 'niggles'. A great way to start the week and some handy stretches to go back to as a warm up/warm down on these cold winter days! Thanks Claire!
