41 really excellent humans ran to Vauxhall Foodbank and sorted 1.2tonnes of food then ran back again. WOWEEEE
The first week of December saw us back to old favourite Vauxhall Foodbank. George C led a warm up, which involved us letting sheep out of a pen, herding them up, putting them back again and then celebrating. And all that whilst dynamically getting ready to run. Don't say nothing ever happens in Lambeth.
We split into two groups cos there were loads of us. Jim led one group down the left side of the road and Issy led the other group down the right side. We ran 3.5km down to Vauxhall and the lovely Faith was waiting for us with 1.2 tonnes of food donated by local shoppers.
The food needed to be sorted into categories and we were the ones to do it! Sam and Beth were the chief weighers and mathematicians, whilst others took to labelling, sorting and lifting with wild abandon. We listened to Christmas tunes and navigated a complex crate exchange situation with aplomb. Here's a taster of what it was like:
On finishing up, we ran back to base in three groups, the more relaxed runners set off with Beth, the steady eddie's went with Katie and those who were really in a rush went with Tom Hunter. It really was a grand evening and Faith was thrilled.
Vauxhall Foodbank provide short term food support to families and individuals in crisis. We help them out by sorting food collected from local supermarkets into categories and making sure it is correctly weighed. This task is the dream for all lovers of neatness and order. Feel the calm wash over you as all the tins get sorted and put away. The work we do here would take the voluntary staff hours to do by themselves. We get everything bang tidy in 20 mintes.
