Sleepers on the job

Sunday 24th November

Written by Southwark runner

Yesterday, Emma, James and Paulin went to Surrey Docks Farm to help out.

As usual, we were met by Pat, who showed us what we needed to do. She led us to piles of sleepers (big wooden logs), which needed to be moved to near the allotments, where they will be used to rebuilding the beds.

This was hard work as the sleepers were very heavy! We experimented with different ways of loading the wheelbarrows, and we worked as a team. Connor from the farm also helped out - he put us to shame by carrying 3 at a time by himself! ๐Ÿ’ช

Nevertheless, we persisted and we were quite proud of what we'd achieved over the 90 minutes. We were treated to time with Roger the rabbit, and feeding the goats, so it was all worth it at the end!

Know your spring onions ๐Ÿง…

Monday 25th November

Written by Gosia Rybacka

We arrived at 12:30 ๐Ÿ•‘ just in time to take over from an earlier shift. The tasks we tackled this time were as follows:

  1. Checking and sorting spring onions delivery ๐Ÿง… - this kept Gosia busy for most of the time, bet she will be dreaming about them tonight ๐Ÿ˜†;
  2. Assembling assorted packages of pastries ๐Ÿฅ - gracefully handled by Susan and Stuart both wearing protective gloves and stylish aprons;
  3. Packing up bread slices ๐Ÿž - Susan and Stuart prepared a bunch of bags filled with neatly slided bread;
  4. Checking and sorting carrot ๐Ÿฅ• and cabbage ๐Ÿฅฌ supply - just after dealing with spring onions Gosia jumped onto the carrots and made sure none was too bendy or off; same task was handled by Susan just in a cabbage space;
  5. Sorting a mix of food on the racks - all to keep the products nice and tidy ready for the shoppers tomorrow.

There was supposed to be an additional delivery while we were there but it eventually didn't arrived in time. We still managed to fill an entire two hours doing something useful ๐Ÿค“. After chatting for a while with a shift manager, all three of us departed at 14:30.

Swapsies! ๐Ÿ”

Thursday 21st November

Written by Gosia Rybacka

Nick & Gosia helped Mr K with doing some rearrangements in his apartament ๐Ÿ .

Winter is defo getting closer and in anticipation of that we were both wearing warm coats ๐Ÿงฅ, gloves ๐Ÿงค and winter hats ๐Ÿงข. Going out today not really recommended ๐Ÿ˜†โ˜ƒ๏ธ.

The place wasn't that easy to find ๐Ÿ—บ but we did arrive at Mr K's doors at 12 on the dot. As instructed, Nick called him directly on his mobile phone ๐Ÿ“ž to let him know we arrived (the intercom wasn't working). Then we were given few more instructions on how to get to the flat.

After welcoming us at the door, Mr K explained us the task. We were supposed to swap the place for two chairs/armchairs ๐Ÿ’บ. An armchair from a studio should be placed in the bedroom, while an office chair from the bedroom should go to the studio.

It was a fairly straightforward task and we managed to sort it out very quickly. Although there was a bit of clutter around we gracefully ๐Ÿฉฐ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ and successfully navigated through it.

After completion we stopped for a little chat with Mr K, when he mentioned he might need some help in arranging a charity pick up for some of his clothes ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘–.

We left the apartament after around 20 mins. Mr K seemed to be happy with the outcome and thanked us for the help.
