Full Cycle Community Bike Project

Help wash donated bikes to be given to local charities
Full Cycle's friendly team believe in the brilliance of the bicycle, and are as passionate about recycling as cycling. Our mission is to refurbish and rehome unwanted bikes, minimising waste, promoting active travel and giving people from all backgrounds access to affordable cycling. To achieve this, we work with local grassroots causes to inspire and support more people into cycling, with a big focus on helping old bikes find new homes with local residents most in need.

24 GoodGymers have supported Full Cycle Community Bike Project with 11 tasks.

Sofa so good

Tuesday 29th October

Written by Tom Peacock

It was back to Full Cycle for a task with a bit of a difference as we were involved in helping Save the World Club, the charity which has also been sharing the space in New Malden.

Tariq had us all quickly involved in moving various bits and pieces from the roof space to be removed. Following Tariq’s lead - albeit without the sledgehammer - Ben and Hazel managed to take apart some sofas, while Dave and Luke navigated the tricky route down the stairs with them.

Tom, Rachel, Marcos, Jade and Emma also helped carry assorted items down to a skip, where a terrifying digger smashed everything into smithereens. Short but sweet, managing a huge amount of work in our session.

Less Mess after moving the Mattress. No Stress.

Tuesday 15th October

Written by Dave White

A busy evening was had by GoodGym Kingston as we helped the Save The World Club charity move a load of old furniture.

The charity has been running for over 20 years with the aim of saving items from landfill or incineration and keep it circulating through upcycling, redistribution and public art. As much as the intentions are wonderful, they simply can't save it all and tonight's activity involved clearing one of their storage areas of unusable furniture.

Marcos, Luke and Dave got busy with loading an empty skip with heavy old bed frames, tables, cots etc. Meanwhile Jana, Hazel and Rachel were moving a load of mattresses and sofas from one part of the storage unit to another are to enable easier access and free up space.

Many hands made light work and we had soon cleared all that we could. A really satisfying task and some great progress made. Mission accomplished.

Pedal Power: Bike Cleaning and Wheel Wrangling at Full Cycle

Tuesday 24th September

Written by Jana

Emily, Julie, Jana, Dave, and Ffion took on the challenge of cleaning a fleet of muddy bikes. With the bikes clamped and raised, we scrubbed off every speck of dirt.

However, the real fun came when we tried to steer the bikes—someone had loosened the handlebars for storage! Cue a chaotic scene of bikes wobbling in all directions and plenty of laughter.

An hour flew by, and soon we were admiring a stack of gleaming bikes, ready for action.

Upstairs we had a wheelie good time; Claire, Ben and Jade moved the vintage bikes to their section and the children’s bikes to another pile to make room for lots of wheels.

We filled our new space with wheels from downstairs and another room stacking them as neatly as possible.

A few wheels still had tyres on so we popped downstairs and learnt how to remove them. It was tiring work but very satisfying when they popped off.

Can’t wait to do it all again soon!

A wheel good[gym] job

Saturday 13th July

Written by Jade

After a few days brake (following the group run earlier this week) we returned to Full Cycle today.

The storage area was desperately in need of a tidy up so we took things up a gear reorganising the space, shelves and various boxes of bike parts. It's amazing what a few hands can do in less than an hour!

Wheelie fun evening at Full Cycle

Tuesday 5th March

Written by Emma Crowe

We had another great evening helping out at Full Cycle, an independent, non-profit community bike project. We had the great honour of celebrating Emily's 100th good deed and we thanked her for her amazingness. Well done, Emily!

Eight GoodGymers got stuck in to the tasks Callum had lined up for us. Emma rolled up punctured inner tubes for recycling, Tom, Sabir and Rachel made rags to clean the bikes, and over the course of evening, together with Jade, Emily, Jo and Dave, we all helped to clean nine children’s bikes ready for resale or donating to children in need in the community. This might sound a quick and easy task but as anyone with a well-used bike will know, mud and grit can get in every nook and cranny! By using the three bike repair stands we were able to hang up each bike making all the nooks and crannies easier to reach! Hopefully we did a thorough job and can be invited back to help out again!

We all went in different directions from Full Cycle, walking, cycling and running, with a cool down at the Quaker Centre for those of us who wanted to head in that direction. Lovely to see Jo again - who now splits her time between Goodgym Bristol and GoodGym Kingston! 👏

Never too-tyred to help at Full Cycle

Tuesday 27th February

Written by Emma Crowe

As a group we get head over wheels running - or pedalling - over to Full Cycle, an independent, not for profit group, to help them get ahead on a few time consuming tasks.

This week the many hands of nine GoodGymers made light work checking and labelling dozens of inner tubes. Jas, Tom and Sabir focused on removing the inner tubes from a pile of tyres while Luke, Rachel, Claire, Julie, Dave and Emma pumped and deflated dozens of inner tubes waiting for our attention, sorting out the good from bad. It may not sound like a significant job but with the air tight ones all rolled up, labelled and stored in different crates for the different sizes, the maintenance team will now be able to easily reach for the right inner tube to fit in a bike they can sell second hand or give to someone in need in Kingston. And don’t worry about the punctured inner tubes - they all get recycled.

A run back along Kingston Road saw us back at the Quaker Centre, where our cool down gave us an opportunity to check who’ll be attending the range of other great tasks lined up for this week.
