On Sunday, 5 keen Goodgymmers from all across North London made their way to Crouch End Open Space (CREOS) meadows to help the Friends of CREOS and The Conservation Volunteers with setting down a new forest path. The route links up the woodland sections of Highgate, Queens Wood and Alexandra Palace, and is a hugely popular walking path, surrounded by greenery and ancient trees.

Ivo, Karen were first to arrive, and helped the CREOS team with bringing wheelbarrows and shovels over to the North London Cricket Club car park, where 8 huge bags of building aggregate had been placed (supplied by a local merchant). John and Emily (who celebrated her 50th Goodgym deed today! Congratulations!) came down shortly after, and together we shovelled large barrow loads of stone and pebbles over to the meadow (about 400m away). The grassy spot is known to get very muddy throughout the year, and requires regular maintenance to keep visitors from disturbing wildlife habitats by walking around puddles and ditches.

One of our team had an ingenious idea of cutting holes in the rubble bags that were positioned on top of each other to use gravity to spill the aggregate into our wheelbarrows, saving us a lot of extra exertion! Working smart, as well as working hard! During our session, the whole crew were about to lay down 4 and a half massive builder's bags of aggregate, which is a huge start to a big project!

We will be back again same time next week, so come on down to join us for more quality workouts followed by coffee in Crouch End!
